Who is Wolf? Who is Lamb?

The relevance and wisdom of Aesop's Fables are unquestionable. And the story of 'The Wolf and the Lamb', where a scheming wolf finds lame excuses to chance upon a lamb may be juxtaposed to draw similarities with the looming intentions in the contemporary world. In the Jawaharlal Nehru University incident, to be frank, I am not sure who the Wolf is.

The Academia has emerged vehemently condemning the IPC Sec 124 A with calls to repeal the colonial law as it is not in sync with democracy and free speech. Further, by defining what is anti-national they are indeed concurring with the regime's definition of Nationalism. First of all, protesters need to know that India is not Bharat Mata and vice- versa as per the Sangh Parivar definitions.

They need to differentiate between anti-establishment and anti-national. In the functioning of a vibrant democracy, a dissent against the current establishment may be organically born by the virtue of free thinking and free speech. One may even harbour sympathy for the neighboring nations (except during war) without being a lesser nationalistic than the sloganeers of Bharat Mata. However, an inciting speech that call for splintering India into pieces is in fact gravely mischievous. You may call for a free Kashmir, a free what not. Of course, you have all the right to express your dissent but threatening to destroy the integrity of this country is uncalled for, unfashionable and unpardonable.

The difference between anti-establishment and anti-national can be analogically illustrated through the following examples of Case 1 and Case 2 respectively. I emphasize, assumption is your prerogative!

Case 1: One may say," I don't believe in God. We should start believing in devil. Let's worship the devil."

Case 2: One goes inside a temple and boisterously shouts, " I would destroy the idol in this temple and split it into pieces."

What would you do in both these cases sums up your understanding of not nationalism but of humanism, which unfortunately is a long lost legacy of the realm of leftward politics.

Further, what are you likely to do when your sibling issues a direct threat to the life of your mother? Would you laugh it off for a wait and watch? Or would you uphold your siblings right of free speech, free will, and thus give a free hand??? Or would you confine your mischievous sibling?

The Left intelligentsia (mainly CPM) who was, for a while, under a slack period of media limelight has jumped forth to express their solidarity with the right to  dissent and free speech while insinuating the current regime as an intolerant breed. Intolerance? Did they utter that word in this case? Well, what was that when veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthananthan was shown the doors out of Polit Bureau for raising a genuine dissent? For all practical purposes, that was not intolerance but party discipline, you see. Hence, the stand of these armchair revolutionaries on this issue is more of an attempt to gain a political mileage rather than a genuine concern for free speech and democracy.

Students of DSU, organised a martyrdom of Afzal Guru. I believe, in a democracy, they have the right. So do the Sangh Parivar, when they organise the martyrdom of Nathuram Godse. But the sloganeering against the integrity of India was done by some Kashmiris, who thrive on Indian aids and India's super citizen treatment. The Government should bring these miscreants to task. Also, the student wing of the right faction is not less culpable. This makes the whole incident look like an orchestrated one.

1) Who brought these Kashmiri sloganeers to the programme?
2) Why was Kanhiya Kumar, who was nowhere related to the issue arrested?

As I told you, I still don't know who the wolf is.

  3. If a person purposely annoys you despite repeated warnings, he/ she is asking for death. Shishupal annoyed Krishna only to be slaughtered ruthlessly. However, some bloody scoundrels don't understand the meaning of a No until and unless they are punished and shown the way to hell
