From the shelf of Sledgehammer Politics

Jayprakash Narayan (Lok Nayak) would have been happy now, if he was alive- for he brought in this fad of alternative politics and agitation against a constitutionally elected Government. However, his efforts could not lead to the fruition of his dreams of a corruption-free Government as envisaged by the late Janata Party, which had different regional leaders with different motives. Chaudhary Charan Singh, midst of tussles in inter party politics and the adrenaline rush for top leadership did the most bizarre of acts in the history of Indian politics- disparage, denigrate and detain the erstwhile Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. This was the beginning of the downfall of the Janata Party as it generated a profound public sympathy for the tyrannous Congress and its leader.

Mr. Modi, the smartest of his kind in the entire Parivar of Saffron Brigadiers, after reining in power chose to follow the Golden Rule of Silence on issues that involved the previous heads of power. He was showcasing a Statesmanship that several generation of Indians found only in books- whether it be international relations or domestic routine issues like hygiene or gender equations. His socialistic approach clubbed with a business friendly temper made him ideal for leading India to the glorious path of development. It seemed as if he was beginning to lose the identity of the Parivar he belonged to. This approach of his was not only giving a complex to the Parivar, but to the tenacious Left Leaders too.

All of sudden, things began happening as if there was a puppet PM and the country was being possessed by some saffron ghost. Hence, there was news of Ghar Wapsi, assault on Minority Institutions etc. And on Republic Day that is just a few weeks before the crucial Delhi Elections, the PM dons a suit with imprinted narcissism. This particular act of  displaying one's own name written suit, in entirety, did not seem to be in sync with his personality- given the Chai Wala humble background he claims of, the Statesmanship he displayed and the socialism he exhibited. Inscribing a name on one's possession is not a bad idea but pompously displaying it to the poor bereft of any property is indeed bad. Did Mr. Modi know about such an inscription on his suit or did he willfully reveal it to the media? If willfully revealed, then what is the purpose? Or is he suffering from schizophrenia? Or his advisers intentionally (or not) trying to tarnish his image?- some apprehensions.

The result of Delhi Elections was quite predictable given the history of sledgehammer politics. Mr. Kejriwal may remain smug thinking he has had the last laugh. But,a close examination of events gives another angle to the story of Delhi Elections that AAP's victory was given and not won. It seemed quite unlikely that Mr.Shah, who has had an experience of successful managing over 40 elections go for a strategy of casualness and ruthless bickering of the opponent. Anyway, the elections results of the Gangetic Plains would, I guess, clear the ambiguity surrounding several intentions.
