Jayprakash Narayan (Lok Nayak) would have been happy now, if he was alive- for he brought in this fad of alternative politics and agitation against a constitutionally elected Government. However, his efforts could not lead to the fruition of his dreams of a corruption-free Government as envisaged by the late Janata Party, which had different regional leaders with different motives. Chaudhary Charan Singh, midst of tussles in inter party politics and the adrenaline rush for top leadership did the most bizarre of acts in the history of Indian politics- disparage, denigrate and detain the erstwhile Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. This was the beginning of the downfall of the Janata Party as it generated a profound public sympathy for the tyrannous Congress and its leader.
