There seems to be an unusual gusto in the gender empowering movement in India that it is swooshing around without actually sparing some time for a ponder. I fail to perceive the derived empowerment of women in and around Kerala from the lifting of the customary ban on women entering Sabrimala temple. The PIL is calling for a social reform, thus likening it to the erstwhile Temple Entry Proclamation where discrimination existed to subjugate and subordinate certain sections of the society. There is no such motive behind this prohibition on women in their reproductive years nor there was or is a general belief that women are lesser beings with regard to this prohibition. Where the motive of subordination or subjugation is not inherent in a practice, it should not be blatantly termed as discriminatory. It's good to propagate modern ideas of gender equality but it should not be a blind movement with a blanket approach. P.S: Visiting a temple doesn't make you a super hindu an...
